One-day interaction programme on role of religious communities in Constituent assembly and participation of Christian community, 17 September 2007

Christians in Tansen area organized a one –day interaction programme  to discuss over the role of religious communities in the constituent assembly to make new constitution more inclusive, democratic and people centered. About 40 people representing Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, Muslim religious communities, local political party representatives, civil society members and local level organizations participated in the interaction.

The organizers invited NCCN General Secretary Dr. K.B. Rokaya to speak in the programme as resource person.  Speaking at the programme, Dr. Rokaya said that the religious community is the only community that has fear of God and has no vested interest. Their only interest is to serve and work for the betterment of human beings and all creature of God. Therefore religious community can play a outstanding role for the social and economical transformation of the country. To break discriminatory laws and social structure we should be involved in politics and go in the higher decision making level.

 

The participants intensively discussed on the issues of religious freedom, peace, justice and human rights. They also discussed about the upcoming constituent assembly and participation of religious community.

 

In the Evening on same day, the Pastors and Church Leaders from Palpa organized a meeting with Dr. Rokaya. In the meeting Dr. Rokaya made a brief presentation about the vision, objectives, activities and strategies of NCCN. The Church leaders made strong commitment to support and work together with NCCN.
